Bankers Stories

December 2, 2008 at 9:00 by Martina Comments

More than other banks Societe Generale went through difficult times during the last year or so. To regain credibility after the Jerome Kerviel affair, they decided to launch an online campaign to show the faces and tell the stories of the people that make Societe Generale a reliable bank.

They created a website, called Bankers Stories where a dozen of employees from around the world explain their vision of their work and how it contributes to the economic growth of the country or simply of the context they work in.
Althought the concept of the campaign isn’t particularly innovative, I’m impressed by the quality of the videos, that makes the whole project interesting and worth being discovered also by those (like me) who couldn’t care less about Societe Generale.

I completely agree; the idea behind this website is not original or even innovative. But I’m sure it has helped the rise of the bank.
In my opinion, I think it would have been more beneficial to provide the opinions and thoughts of customers rather than those who for the company. In the minds of a consumer, wouldn’t they want to hear from others consumers rather than employees who have a biased opinion?

This takes me back to the Hall of Presidents. And yet I was compelled to listen to what what each of had to say. It’s not often a bank can give you warm fuzzies like that.

I really have to applaud companies when they do this kind of damage control. Any effort to step up in the wake of any kind of failure is not only respectable but smart. I like this campaign and the face-to-face aspect makes it that much more personal. Kind of like the State Farm commercials..”this is a real story..” Hats off Societe Generale.
