Skinny Blonde

June 4, 2009 at 1:57 by Mark Comments

A new site has just gone live in Australia for the beer brand Skinny Blonde. The label on the bottle is a 1950′s woman in a bikini. When you place a warm hand over the label the bikini top vanishes. The site is all about that… which is very courageous for a beer brand. Check it out here

    I don’t think it’s courageous, I think it’s rather cheap…

Courageous? More like a major cop out. So…let’s portray women from a time period in which objectifying them was acceptable and the twist is that you get to see their boobs as they pose in Playboy positions, and this is our brilliant plan to sell beer…? I have appreciation for the old adage “sex sells,” what I don’t have appreciation for is advertising that lacks the ability (or rather, makes the deliberate choice) to follow that adage with such an intense lack of creativity and originality. Granted, the site design and capabilities are excellent. But really? We could sell anything if it had naked ladies on it - laundry detergent, fast food, laxatives, and, of course, beer - which is why this seems like a cop out to me. Although I am sure it will be successful, I’d like to think that there is some advertising out there that holds itself to a higher standard than the porn + product = sales formula.

As a woman, I have contrasting feelings about this. I feel a bit offended by its cheapness, but at the same time I think they have been able to create a small silly project that perfectly connects with the Homer Simpson gene every man has… it’s the truth, don’t deny it :-)

    Hi !
    Even if i’m a girl, I’ve really enjoyed this banner ! :-)
Probably is because of my marketing addiction …
Thanks for your website, I’ve found a lot of articles for mine too.
    Have fun !
