Crispin Porter + Bogusky Miami is the agency behind the Pink Panty Poker Victoria’s Secret PINK has just launched. The campaign targets 18-24 women, but I’m sure a wider public will enjoy the game

A few of us were sitting around playing strip poker at the agency one Monday night when the idea hit us like a ton of bricks. Poker is really hot right now. And who doesn’t like seeing total strangers in their underwear? Especially when that underwear is by sexy Victoria’s Secret PINK brand. So what if we combined the two? And have V.S. Supermodel Alessandra throw a panty poker party with a few of her model friends. We just thought it would be a fun way for girls to get a glimpse of the latest PINK styles and get a little eye candy with the guy players. Like a Tupperware party. But for thongs. With hot guys. And a Supermodel.

They’re certainly launching a lot of “sexy” sites right now, but it’s hard to argue with the results. I haven’t seen any other agency be so consistently mentioned on blogs

If you don’t tell bloggers about your campaigns, they will not post about you, just because they don’t know what you did…
Martina is absolutely correct. Crispin has always been very aggressive about getting as much press for themselves as they can. Someone there has a bowel movement and you’ll read about it on half a dozen blogs. They are as skilled at promoting themselves as they are their clients - possibly even more so. Which is smart on their part - until people tire of being forcefed stories about their “brilliance” and the inevitable backlash kicks in.
It’s a freakin’ brilliant idea for a client who sells underwear. Pretty much anything they do will have to be sexy. Learn from them. Do not chastize them.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion,Todd. But I respectfully submit that what you or I find sexy might not be what a typical 18 to 24 year old woman finds sexy. Of course, Victoria’s Secret is selling sex. But there’s a difference between sensuality and smarm. Instead of trying to get inside the heads of today’s young women, they took the frat boy approach. But hey, if it gets you to buy a teddy from Victoria’s Secret, maybe it won’t be a total loss.
Absolutely! CP+B’s creative is generally better than most. One thing that they obviously have down extremely well is promoting their own work.
It almost begs the question as to what is more important for the client: the actual quality of the work and creative, or the amount of buzz and attention it is able to get?
I’m not saying that CP+B creates bad work (quite the opposite in fact!), but I’m suggesting the quality of the work might be secondary to the attention they are able to generate for it.
I am in the target market and when i saw this posted I did not believe that it would be anything that would appeal to me. But when I played it I played for about 7 minutes and I sent it to 2 friends. I dont know about you but I think 7 minutes is a decent amount of time for a user to spend one-on-one with a brand. Especially since I will probably go back tomorrow.
What kept me playing was the poker, not the stripping. The stripping was only there to show me the product and it fitted in well with the game.
I think this is a great promotion and shows that CP+B can deal with things other than chickens and cars.
I’m not sure this appeals to women, but it does appeal to men who might buy stuff for their women. But the site is mostly a big tease; the girls don’t even get topless. Zzzzzz. VS will get some brief attention (pun intended), but people won’t keep coming back (cuming back?) without the money shot.
CPB does good work AND are a bunch of media whores. What’s wrong with that?
There’s nothing really wrong with that, Wink - except when the hype reaches such absurd proportions that all sense of perspective is lost. I agree that Crispin does some terrific stuff. I just don’t need to have that fact rammed down my throat every time I pick up ADWEEK or CREATIVITY. With the kind of fawning coverage they routinely receive, you’d think they’d discovered the cure for cancer or something. No matter how you dress it up, it’s just advertising, for crying out loud.
The only problem is that the game is programmed to make you (in this case me, hot underwear purchasing agent for my Dutch girlfriend) lose before any real nudity takes place. Can they have a European version which checks your IP address and then continues?
