Heineken meets Google (again)

Heineken Netherlands once again hooks up with Google to promote their new product Tapvat (Draught Keg). This time Google Maps is integrated in the Tapvat World Tour 2006 campaign. Visitors are challenged to search the world for gigs from Dutch live band Voicst using satellite maps. A radio signal leads them to the right spot.

In 2005 Heineken also coorporated with Google for the introduction of Tapvat. In that campaign – Tapvat on Tour - Google Image Search was integrated as a personalized postcard generator, challenging visitors to find the most original destination to take along their Tapvat.

Since this a campaign from my own agency Qi (I really had to share this one, sorry), I left my opinion behind. But I'm curious what you think..

Hi Rocco,

That’s a damn good campaign. I love the idea and the way it is integrated.
Keep up the good work.

BTW: if you don’t skip the intro, the play button doesn’t work and the image is a little bit blurry. Seems the animation stops 1 frame too early.

Hi Rocco,

That's a really nice example of incorporating the Google Maps web service into content. Previously I've only seen straight "mash-up" applications, but never actually using the maps within the content of another site.

When working on this site, were there ever any issues regarding licensing, or is the Google service free to use, even for such a commercial purpose?

Also, were there any issues with convincing the client to utilise a third-party web service they don't have direct control over?

@steven: thanks for the feedback.
@miles: We set this thing up in coorporation with Google. So they are named in all our press releases and on the website itself. Don't forget that this is free publicity for Google Maps as well.

Just noticed the question you asked. Indeed a great campaign. I already mentionned this on my own blog some time ago. Great stuff.
