Sorry I'm a little bit late with this post, the competition actually finished last week, but it's too silly not to mention it. The Scottish Tourist board has been running an online competition called "Date a Hot Scot", which asked visitors to vote for the most good looking Scot and enter the chance of winning a trip to Scotland. The campaign has been running for a few weeks in France, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Germany, now it's over but I feel like I haven't missed much.
This is the message which welcomes visitors:
A kilted Scotsman. Now that's hot! And don't you just love their accent? In Scotland you'll find a surprising number of young, single men - in fact almost half a million of them!
Check out twenty of the hottest right here and vote one as your favorite Hot Scot. And once you've voted you'll be entered to win a fabolous trip to Scotland for you and a girlfriend, where you can both get to meet some of these gorgeous men in their equally gorgeous natural habitat. Ladies, what are you waiting for?
Is this supposed to be funny? As a woman, I'm not going to say that I feel offended by this campaign, I'm simply not laughing at it nor passing it to my girlfriends for the following reasons:
a) The men are not actually as hot as advertised.
b) It's too early to be a desperate housewife (in the end I still have a boyfriend...)
c) The concept is not so original (see this Swiss ad)
d) Does this campaign really deliver a positive image of Scotland of it simply promotes an unusual form of sexual tourism?
