Mobile advertising is becoming irresistible

I'm sure you already read this several times: mobile advertising it's about to boom. I had one more article to the list, even if I'm no longer very confident in the potentials of the market. Sounds like we've been talking about this for ages, but the so called "explosion" never happened yet. I think it's also a problem of wording (mobile marketing/mobile advertising and marketing integration) but also a big issue related to costs. Isn't mobile internet (still) too expensive for users? As a consumer, sorry but in Italy I cannot afford a mobile connection, therefore I don't use my 3G phone to browse the Web.

In any case, for those of you interested in the topic, there was an interesting article last week on Infoworld which investigated the potentials of a market which is expected to more than double in 2007 to $1.5 billion.

Also, if you're approaching the mobile advertising thing for the first time, there's this book you might be interested in reading.

Martina you are so right. The industry is promising us a mobile marketing since 5 years. I haven't seen anything happening yet.

Martina and Zitoo: I disagree.

I can see mobile marketing going mainstream in a slow but steady pace. The reason it takes a little longer than expected is that marketing people and consumers have to realize the benefits and the technology has to be sold at a low price. Mobile marketing as a product to marketers is also somewhat disruptive: There are a lot of new concepts for marketers to learn.

My humble solution to this dilemma is called http://www.infonu.net, a web site where you can create, distribute and manage mobile marketing services. Everybody has an address book and a calendar in their mobile phone. With InfoNU you can put your own icon next to those and deliver text, images, videos, chat services and customer surveys for free to mobile phones all around the globe.
