In France eBay is about to launch its first advertising campaign on TV. The message they want to deliver it’s “eBay c’est vous” (eBay it’s you) and, together with the agency BETC EuroRSCG, they’ve come up with a very smart and exteremely consistent idea: eBay sellers can buy space within the spot to advertise the products they usually sell through the auction platform.
Hebbes.be, eBay’s competitor in Belgium, has just launched an online guerrilla campaign on eBay itself. Basically the agency, snow by LG&F, came up with the idea of selling some items on eBay complete with pictures saying “Sorry, already sold on Hebbes.be“. Check out the snowboard, the lamp or this motorbike. Hurry up if you want to see the campaign in action, since eBay will be probably remove it sooooooon, no wonder why . In Germany Coca-Cola has signed a sponsorship agreement with eBay. The deal is connected to a summer promotion which will allow music fans to meet their favourite singers. The initiative will last nine weeks and Coke expects to generate over 1.3 billion contacts.
Russell and TJ came up with a cool idea for bloggers: selling advertising space on eBay. Russell in a few days has collected 41$ to place a 120 x 90 banner on his blog. If it works, it might be an excellent way for bloggers to make some money. I think I might give it a try next week. Toyota Motor has agreed to become the first exclusive automotive sponsor on eBay, the online auction site. The article on the IHT says that we can expect more of such deals in the very next future, since automakers are becoming more and more unsatisfied with TV advertising results (and costs). Thanks to the deal, Toyota will be the only automaker advertising new vehicles on eBay and throughout eBay Motors which is the most-visited automotive site on the Web, according to Nielsen/NetRatings figures. Furthermore there will be a “Fueling Desire” a dedicated site for Toyota to showcase new cars and promotions.
eBay Inc. has signed a global, multiyear pact to use its marketing tools and ad-serving technology provided by DoubleClick. eBay will use DoubleClick’s online advertising solutions to enhance the efficiency performance of its online advertising programs, and to provide the ad serving and management capability for its new Keywords on eBay service announced yesterday. eBay is launching a new points-based member program designed to give consumers more currency on its site. According to MediaPost the news has been welcomed by big brands who look at this deal as a new interesting marketing opportunity to get in touch with the huge eBay audience.
